A robbery by an armed gang on a Lidl supermarket in Cork over the weekend during which a female staff member was tied up is being investigated by gardaí.
The 44-year-old woman was opening the Lidl supermarket in Mitchelstown in north Cork at around 6am on Saturday when she was confronted by two masked raiders armed with knives.
The gang threatened the woman and ordered her to open the shop. Once they gained entry they found that the store’s main safe was on time lock.
They tied the woman up with duct tape and cable ties and left the store with a small amount of cash.
The woman managed to free herself and raise the alarm and she was taken to hospital for treatment for minor injuries.
Gardaí have carried out a technical examination of the scene while they have also begun examining CCTV footage in a bid to try and identify the two culprits behind the robbery.
They have also appealed to the public for information, asking anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Mitchelstown area to contact them at Mitchelstown Garda station on 025-84833.
