Gardaí in Mayo have launched an appeal for witnesses following a fatal road collision late on St Patrick's Day.

The single vehicle crash happened at about 11:15pm on the L5243 at Knocknalower in Pullathomas, Co Mayo

While the investigation is at a preliminary stage, it is understood that the car involved left the road before colliding with a wall. A woman in her 20s was taken to Mayo University Hospital where she was treated for her injuries before dying.

The road remained closed on Friday to allow for a technical examination by forensic collision investigators.

Any road users who may have camera footage including dash-cam, and were travelling in the area at the time, are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
