The Department of Foreign Affairs is investigating reports of an incursion into the Republic last night by a joint British army and PSNI patrol.

A spokesman for the Department told ireland.comthat the matter had been raised with British authorities through the Anglo-Irish Secretariat at Maryfield.

A report into the matter has also been requested of the Garda Síochána by the Department.

The joint British army-PSNI patrol reportedly crossed into the Republic at Fairyhill, near Omeath, Co Louth at around 7.50 p.m.

The matter was raised in the Dáil last night and the Department is hoping it may receive a response later today.
