Better Fashion Week, a series of events, talks, movies and panel discussions opened yesterday in Dublin with a line-up that included couturier Ib Jorgensen, artist/designer Helen Steele and TV presenter Brendan Courtney discussing their attitude to “fearless” fashion.
The Irish premiere of Deadly Fashion, a documentary on cotton production, was also shown last night.
Organised by Re-Dress, the not-for-profit initiative founded in 2008 to promote better fashion practices in Ireland, the week includes a symposium
this evening on mentoring and the future of fashion.
On Friday Dr Kate Fletcher of the London College of Fashion will speak on future textiles and on Saturday a fashion show will feature local designers Eilis Boyle, Emma Manley, Róisín Gartland and others.
All events take place in a “pop up” shop at No 6 Castle Market.
Re-Dress was founded to raise public awareness of recycling and of ethical and environmental issues surrounding fashion.
