A status yellow wind warning will remain in place until the morning, with Met Éireann predicting temperatures will drop overnight.

The alert came into effect at one minute past midnight on Thursday and will not be lifted until 6am on Friday.

Strong to gale force and blustery southeasterly winds will veer southwesterly overnight, with some severe gusts expected in coastal areas. Temperatures are expected to be between 2 and 6 degrees.

Sunny spells were anticipated for Friday morning with showers mainly on the west coast. The rain is likely to move across the country as the day goes on turning heavy in the evening.
