Two women have been arrested as part of an ongoing Garda investigation into human trafficking, organised prostitution and money laundering.
The women, aged in their 40s and 30s, were detained after gardaí conducted a number of searches in counties Roscommon, Longford and Donegal on Monday morning.
The search operation on Monday involved gardaí attached to the Human Trafficking Investigation and Co-ordination Unit at the Garda National Protective Services Bureau, with the assistance of gardaí from the Garda Western Region.
The women are being held at a north Dublin Garda station under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007, on suspicion of organised crime offences.
The Garda National Protective Services Bureau is appealing for anyone who has been the victim of human trafficking to contact the Garda National Protective Services Bureau, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666111 or any Garda station. A Garda statement said that any such person who gets in contact will be treated with the upmost confidentiality and sensitivity.
