Two men have been arrested following an investigation into the fatal shooting of Peter Butterly in Co Meath in March 2013.

The men, aged in their 40s and 50s, were arrested by gardaí this morning and are being questioned at Kells Garda station under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939.

Mr Butterly was shot dead shortly after 2pm on March 6th, 2013 in Gormanston.

The assailants fled the scene in car which was later intercepted by gardaí. Gardaí arrested four men, recovered a handgun and seized the car the men had been driving. They later arrested a fifth man close to the scene.

Two of the men were later released, while the remaining three were charged.
