Teenage boy questioned over attack on woman in Cork freed without charge

A teenage boy has been released without charge after he was arrested in connection with a serious attack on a woman in her 20s in Cork city last month.

The youth was arrested on Monday in relation to an assault which took place on Evergreen Street at 11.30pm on January 29th.

The violent incident occurred when a male attacked the woman who was walking alone. She was hit in the head and face and sustained cuts and damage to her jaw. It is understood she had been followed for a period before the attack.

The woman was transferred to Cork University Hospital via ambulance for treatment. She was left badly shaken by the incident. However, her injuries were not life-threatening.

Members of the public had rushed to the assistance of the woman. Fortunately her attacker fled the scene by foot once passersby came to her aid having been alerted by her cries for help.

Gardaí harvested CCTV security camera footage from the area as part of their investigation. They have also interviewed witnesses who came to the assistance of the injured party.

The woman has also spoken to gardaí about the incident. A teenage boy arrested in connection with the incident has been released without charge. A file will be prepared for the DPP.
