A teenager arrested in connection with the death of a man in Edenderry, Co Offaly has been released without charge.
The 17-year-old male was arrested on Sunday night and had been in Garda custody since.
He was being questioned under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Tullamore Garda station, but was released without charge on Tuesday.
"The individual has been released without charge and a file is being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, " a Garda spokeswoman said.
The local community has been "left in shock" following the death of Bruno Rolandi who was found stabbed to death on Sunday night.
The 54-year-old Italian national was discovered with a number of knife wounds at the home he shared with his partner in the Ballyfore area of Edenderry.
Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Noel Burke told The Irish Times there was a "deep sense of sadness" in the local community.
“The sudden death of Mr Rolandi has come as a deep shock and has caused a deep sense of sadness in the local community.
"He was originally from Italy but had been living in the local community for the past 15 years. The family are well known in the local area, so a death like this has rocked the small community," said Cllr Burke.
The alarm was raised just after 7.45pm on Sunday, when gardaí and paramedics were called to the house.
When they arrived at the scene they found Mr Rolandi with stab wounds.
Paramedics tried to administer emergency treatment but Mr Rolandi’s injuries were too severe and he died at the scene.
Mr Rolandi’s remains were removed to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore on Monday evening for a postmortem examination.
While the results have not yet been released it’s understood the deceased suffered multiple stab injuries.
The property where Mr Rolandi’s body was discovered underwent a forensic examination by members of the Garda Technical Bureau.
Mr Rolandi was originally from the Monza region of Italy but had been living in Edenderry for some time.
