Over 1 million smuggled cigarettes have been seized in an operation at Dublin Port.

Revenue said the unstamped cigarettes were discovered on Thursday with the assistance of its detector dog Kelly and its mobile x-ray scanner, when officers conducted a routine examination of freight, which arrived into Dublin from Rotterdam.

The seized cigarettes, branded “Marlboro”, have a retail value of almost €500,000, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €422,000.
