Gardaí investigating the death of a man in a west Dublin apartment are awaiting the results of toxicology tests to determine whether there was foul play involved.

The remains of the deceased were found at a property on Annaly Grove, Ongar, Dublin 15, when gardaí were called there at about 4am on Saturday.

The scene was sealed off and has been forensically examined by members of the Garda Technical Bureau.

The man’s body was examined at the scene by a pathologist before being taken away for a full postmortem.

While two women who were in the apartment were arrested for questioning, the dead man had no obvious injuries on his body. The postmortem did not establish any conclusive cause of death, and gardaí are awaiting the results of further tests to determine whether drugs may have caused his death.

The deceased is a 31-year-old from Tallaght, west Dublin, who is known to gardaí.

He has served a number of prison sentences for what sources said were chaotic public order offences and minor drugs offences related to his drugs habit.

Assault

He had been arrested as recently as last week after an assault on staff in the A&E department of

Blanchardstown Hospital

where he had gone for treatment for an injury.

He has been homeless for periods and has also stayed at times in rented accommodation in Dublin and Kildare as well as homeless hostels in Dublin’s inner city.

The two women who were arrested are in their 30s. They were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Last evening they were released without charge and gardaí said a file would be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
