Signs of struggle at property at Ormond Square where victim lived for over ten years

Gardaí are investigating the death of a 51-year-old man after a stabbing incident in central Dublin this afternoon.

State Pathologist Professor Marie Cassidy has carried out a preliminary examination at the scene.

Gardaí were called to the scene at Ormond Square off the quays near the Four Courts complex in Dublin 7 shortly after 2.30pm. The man (51) is understood to have received several stab wounds.

Emergency services attended the scene, but the man died.

He was found inside the hall door of the terraced house when another person, believed to be a friend, tried to enter the property, but found the door jammed.

The dead man had lived in the house for more than 10 years and was the registered owner with another person, according to sources.

There were no obvious signs of a forced entry on the exterior of the building, but Garda sourcs said that there were signs of a violent struggle inside.

The body of the deceased has been removed to the City Morgue in Marinwhere a full post mortem will be carried out at 10am tomorrow

Gardaí have appointed a family liaison officer to the family.

Gardaí are appealing for information in relation to this incident to contact he Bridewell Garda station on 01-6668200. They are particularly anxious to hear from anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the general area of Ormond Square from 7.30am this morning.
