A top mental health nurse on Tuesday pleaded guilty to stealing almost £1,000 of amyl nitrite inhalers.
At Antrim Magistrates Court, 52-year-old Trevor Fleming pleaded guilty to stealing one box worth £141 on November 8th last year and stealing six boxes worth £846 from the Northern Health and Social Care Trust between December 31st 2013 and November 9th last year.
Following the guilty pleas, District Judge Alan White said it was a case for a presentence probation reports and defence solicitor Tony Caher agreed "it certainly is".
Mr Caher revealed he had a cheque for the full amount to compensate the trust as he was keen to get the money repaid “at the earliest moment”.
Judge White said that he would have to wait until he imposed a compensation order when it came to passing sentence but “I’m quite happy to acknowledge that you are paying in today”.
Releasing Fleming on bail to August 11th, the judge advised him to co-operate with probation in the compiling of the report.
It has previously been reported that Fleming, who was the health trust's head of mental health nursing, was arrested by police in the carpark of Antrim Area Hospital after medication was reported missing from the A&E department.
