More than €350,000 of cigarettes seized in hot tubs in Rosslare

Revenue officers found the smuggled goods in a truck arriving from Cherbourg

Revenue officers seized more than €357,000 of cigarettes hidden in hot tubs in Rosslare Europort this weekend.

The smuggled cigarettes arrived in a Lithuanian registered truck, which had travelled from Cherbourg on a ferry into Rosslare port.

Officers had identified the truck as “suspicious” during routine profiling, then scanned the cargo to find the cigarettes in a number of hot tubs shortly before midnight on Saturday.

The cigarettes were branded Minsk Superslip, Minsk Short and NZ Gold Superslip.

The truck was seized and the driver, in his 20s, was questioned and later released.

Investigations are ongoing and the serizure was part of Revenues operation targeting the illegal sale and supply of cigarettes.
