Man shot in Limerick in serious condition in hospital

A man is in a serious condition in hospital after he was shot in the stomach in Limerick on Tuesday afternoon.

The shooting happened around 3pm close to the man’s home at Clonlong halting site, on the south side of the city.

A car found burnt out at Kennedy Park housing estate is believed to have been used by the gunman.

Gardaí sealed off an alley at the rear of a row of houses in the estate where the gold coloured Suzuki Vitara was discovered on fire.

Gardaí said the victim, who was named locally as Terry Casey, was aged in his mid 30s and was in a “serious” condition in hospital.

It is understood he presented himself at University Hospital Limerick with gunshot wounds.

A garda source said the motive for the gun attack was not known.

Gardaí later arrested a man in his 20s “in connection with the shooting”.

“The arrested man is detained at Roxboro Road Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.”
