A man was shot dead in the Tallaght area of Dublin on Monday night in the second fatal gun attack in the city within a week.
The victim, who was in his late 20s, and is believed to have worked as a fitness instructor, was shot in his car several times in a car park at Fortunestown Lane near Citywest.
He suffered head injuries and died a short time later.
Garda sources said the man was not involved in the Hutch-Kinahan gangland feud which has to date claimed 12 lives.
However, the victim was known to gardaí for other gangland-related activities.
The injured man received medical assistance at the scene but was pronounced dead within a short time.
The scene at Fortunestown Lane has been preserved pending a Garda technical examination.
Investigating gardaí have appealed for witnesses and anyone with information, particularly those who may have been in the vicinity of Fortunestown Lane, Tallaght, to contact the incident room at Tallaght Garda station on 01-6660000.
In a statement, the Garda said it was investigating the shooting which occurred at about 9.20pm.
“The injured man received medical assistance at the scene but was pronounced dead a short time later. A postmortem is to be arranged.”
The killing was the second fatal shooting in a week in Dublin.
On Monday night last week, Darragh Nugent was shot dead outside his home on Wheatfield Avenue in Neilstown in west Dublin at about 9.40pm.
One line of inquiry being examined by gardaí is whether the two shootings are linked.
