A 45-year-old man who was stabbed in an attack in Dublin last night has died in hospital.
The man, named locally as David Sheridan, from the North Strand area of the city, was attacked outside a takeaway close to his home shortly after 10.30pm.
He had been in the fast food outlet near the Five Lamps, when he became involved in a verbal row with another customer.
After he went outside, he was stabbed repeatedly in the abdomen, chest and back.
Emergency services including an ambulance and a fire tender attended at the scene. Mr Sheridan was taken to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital nearby where he underwent emergency surgery, but he died this morning.
The scene of the attack remained sealed off by gardaí tonight and multiple sites near the scene were covered in protective plastic. A forensic examination was carried out by members of the Garda Technical Bureau.
Gardaí at Mountjoy have appealed for witnesses who may have been in the takeaway or in the area at the time to contact them.
