Man charged with unlawful killing in Cork

25-year-old bailed after charge in relation to killing last September

A 25-year-old man has been remanded on bail after he was charged with the unlawful killing of a grandfather last September.

Luke O'Sullivan, of Inchera Lawn, Mahon, Cork appeared before Cork District Court charged with the unlawful killing of Pat Deasy (57) contrary to common law at Avenue de Rennes, Mahon on September 22nd, 2012.

Det Garda Niall Hayes gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution before Judge Leo Malone. He told how Mr O'Sullivan was arrested at his home this morning.

Solicitor for the accused Frank Buttimer said his client was unemployed. Judge Leo Malone granted Mr O'Sullivan free legal aid.

Inspector Billy Duane said there was no objection to bail subject to certain conditions. The conditions include that Mr O'Sullivan reside at his address in Mahon, that he observe a curfew between 10pm and 7am, that he sign on at Anglesea Street Garda station three days a week and have no contact with the Deasy family.

Judge Malone remanded Mr O’Sullivan on bail to appear again at Cork District Court on July 12th.

Mr Deasy, who was from Blackrock, died in hospital on September 24th, 2012.
