Two people are being questioned by police after a man was beaten to death with his guitar in his flat in east Belfast on Christmas Eve.

The man, Matthew Goddard (41), was subjected to a violent and brutal attack according to the PSNI. In a statement the police said it appeared Mr Goddard's electric guitar was used during the assault.

Following the results of a postmortem, the PSNI started a murder investigation into Mr Goddard’s death.

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector John McVea said it was likely Mr Goddard had become involved with drugs.

A 21 year-old man and a 24 year-old woman were arrested in east Belfast on Saturday in connection with the murder.

They are being questioned at Musgrave Police Station.
