PSNI says it is using all tools at its disposal to tackle violent dissident republicanism

Detectives investigating the activities of the New IRA have arrested a man in Derry.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Terrorism Investigation Unit detained the 49-year-old during a an operation in the city on Thursday.

The man is being questioned at Musgrave Police Station in Belfast under the Terrorism Act.

Detective inspector Clara Heaton said the arrest “is part of our ongoing investigation relating to the activities of the New IRA”.

“This arrest is a continued demonstration of our commitment to use all tools at our disposal to reduce the threat posed by violent dissident republicans and I would encourage anyone with information in relation to the New IRA to contact police,” she added.
