Man arrested following Donegal shooting on Saturday

Believed incident connected to a row over a right of way on a piece of land

The 42-year-old victim was attacked in the Glenswilly area outside Letterkenny early on Saturday morning.

A man in his forties has been arrested in connection with a shooting in Co Donegal on Saturday morning in which the victim received shotgun wounds to the face and shoulder.

Gardaí made the arrest before noon today and are continuing to question the man at Milford garda station where he can be held for up to 72 hours under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

It is understood the shooting occurred following a row over a right of way on a piece of land in Co Donegal.

The alarm was raised at 10.30am and he was brought to Letterkenny General Hospital.

He has since been released but was due to be transferred to Galway university hospital for further treatment.

He had been sitting in a digger when he was approached by another man who fired a number of shots. A third man, who was with the victim, managed to flee the scene.
