A man in his 30s has been arrested by gardaí in Cork city following an acid attack which was carried out in the southside suburb of Ballyphehane on Friday evening.
The attack took place shortly after 8pm yesterday when a man forced his way in to a house on Connolly Road. Gardai and the emergency services were alerted.
A 45-year-old man was removed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital with non-lifethreatening injuries. He incurred injuries to his face, head and upper body. His two brothers were also treated in hospital for less serious injuries.
The scene of the attack has been cordoned off and will be technically examined later this morning. The man who was later arrested in connection with the incident remains in custody at the Bridewell Garda Station in Cork city. He is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
Cork City Fire Brigade, the National Ambulance Service and gardaí attended at the scene having been alerted to the incident at 8.40pm on Friday evening. All three men were treated at the scene in a decontamination unit. Investigations are ongoing.
Gardaí are appealing to people who were in the Connolly Road area between 7pm and 9pmon Friday to come forward if they witnessed anyone behaving suspiciously. Gardaí can be contacted at Togher Garda station on 021 4947120.
