A man in his 40s was taken to hospital after he was stabbed a number of times on Sunday evening in Co Meath.

The incident occurred at 8pm in the Balrath Woods area of Burtonstown.

The man in his 40s was in his car when two men approached the vehicle and attacked him. The man received a number of stab wounds, gardaí said on Monday.

The man later received treatment at Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan and his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

It is understood gardaí are trying to establish whether the man was lured to the area by someone known to him.

Gardaí are asking for any person who may have witnessed the incident or who may have information to come forward.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was near the entrance to Balrath Woods, Burtonstown between 7.30pm and 9pm on Sunday and who may have noticed any persons or vehicles to contact them.

Any road users who may have been passing the area at this time and who have dash-cam footage are also asked to make this available to gardaí.
