Burglars robbed ‘a large amount’ of jewellery from an Athlone shopping centre

Burglars escaped with about €250,000 worth of jewellery from a shopping centre during severe snow storms last week.

The gang took the jewellery after they managed to get into the Golden Island complex in Athlone, Co Westmeath, on Friday night.

In a statement, gardaí said “a number of intruders entered the premises overnight and made off with a large amount of jewellery”.

Details of stolen items have not been released.
