A ransom of more than €200,000 was paid to a gang that kept a mother and daughter hostage at gunpoint. The husband of the woman held hostage works for cash-in-transit company GSLS and was forced to go to work early on Thursday to get access to the cash to give to the gang.

In a statement on Friday, the Garda said it was continuing its investigation into the incident which occurred at the family’s home on Gracefield Road, Artane, Dublin, before the subsequent theft of the money at Corballis Road Business Park at Dublin Airport.

“Gardaí in Coolock wish to renew their appeal for information concerning the movements of two vehicles,” said the statement.

It said detectives would like to hear from any individual who may have noticed activity in respect of a silver Volkswagon Caddy van with an 09 D registration number at Gracefield Road, Artane and Chestnut Grove, Dunboyne or any activity between those locations.

This vehicle was stolen at Glasnevin Avenue, Dublin on the night of the October 29th / 30th. It was fitted with false number plates matching a similar authentic VW Caddy van. Gardaí are also anxious to hear from anyone who may have knowledge of this vehicle since the date it was stolen.

The force is also appealing for information on a white box type Ford Transit van which was parked in the vicinity of Corballis Road Business Park, Dublin Airport between 7am and 8.30am on the December 3rd. This vehicle bore a partial registration number 12D.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Coolock Garda Station on 01-6664200, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800-666111 or any Garda Station.

The statement added that the Garda wanted to “acknowledge the support and assistance” the investigation team has received to date from the public.

In a statement GSLS said it is assisting Gardaí in its investigation of the kidnapping of two family members of one of it employees “Our primary concern at this time is for the well-being of our employee and his family.

“As an industry-leading company, GSLS implements best-in-class procedures and training for its cash-in-transit operations. GSLS has signed up to, and abides by, the Private Security Authority’s code of practice for cash-in-transit companies,” it said.
