Gardaí last night launched a manhunt after two men ram-raided a bank in Co Monaghan and fled with cash thought to be in the region of €100,000.

The men, who were not armed, drove a vehicle through a window of the Ulster Bank in Castleblayney. Once inside they snatched a cash box being loaded into an ATM before quickly fleeing the scene.

They then drove out of the town in a white van in the direction of Carrickmacross on the Dublin Road.

Gardaí confirmed the robbery last night and said they had requested assistance from the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
