Gardaí are appealing for information in relation to a fatal hit and run that occurred five years ago in Co Monaghan.

In the early hours of Sunday June 26th, 2011, Fintan Treanor (20) was walking home after a night out in Castleblaney.

At Lemgare, Clontibret, Co Monaghan, he was struck by a vehicle and killed. The Lemgare Rd is a quiet country road with little traffic.

Gardaí in Monaghan have made appeals over the last five years for information about the hit and run.

The driver of the car involved has not been located.

These appeals have centred on an old model Audi A4 1995 to 2001 model missing the front lower air-vent grille.

A spokesman for the Garda has appealed for anyone with any information to come forward.

“Perhaps now after five years some person knows a person who disposed of an Audi A4 around that time,” he said.

“In five years, loyalties, friendships and relationships change and perhaps someone that felt unable to come forward before is now in a position to provide the investigation team with the vital information that would locate the driver.”

CrimeStoppers has issued an appeal in which a reward may be offered for information identifying the driver.

The appeal will also feature on the Crimecall programme to be broadcast on June 27th.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Monaghan Garda station on 04777200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
