A driver was stopped by gardaí in Co Cork last week for travelling at 223km/h on the M8.

The driver was brought to court and given a €200 fine and a two year driving ban.

The speed limit on the M8 is 120km/h, meaning this motorist was travelling at almost twice the maximum speed limit.

Gardaí have stopped 76,875 motorists so far this year for speeding, a decrease of 12,097 on this time last year.
