The former millionaire developer has been remanded in custody since Wednesday after failing to come up with money for bail.

He had been remanded in custody with consent to bail when he appeared before Strokestown District Court on Wednesday on two charges of wasting Garda time. Bail was set at his own bond of €2,500 and independent surety of €10,000, with a minimum of €3,000 of that to be cash.

Defence solicitor Joan Devine told Judge Geoffrey Browne yesterday morning that her client was not in a position to come up with that amount of money. She asked that the amount be reduced.

Insp Padraig Jones opposed the request. He said the charges before the court were serious and that bail was "reasonable". Judge Browne told Ms Devine that she would need to go to the High Court to change the bail terms.

Judge Browne remanded Mr McGeever in custody to appear before Harristown District Court on August 9th.
