Man (50) charged in Co Louth with murder of Audrius Butkus

A man has appeared in court in Co Louth charged with the murder of Audrius Butkus (44), a Lithuanian man whose body was discovered on a beach at Mornington, Co Meath on September 10th last.

Marius Gaizutis (50), unemployed, a Latvian national with an address at Marsh Road, Drogheda, Co Louth, appeared at today's sitting of Dundalk District Court before Judge Flann Brennan charged with the murder of Mr Butkus, between September 9th and 10th last.

It is alleged that the offence was committed at the home of the defendant.

The defendant appeared in court dressed in a beige fleece top, a bodywarmer a grey t-shirt and black tracksuit bottoms.

Detective Sergeant Liam Archibold of Laytown Garda Station gave evidence of arrest charge and caution and stated that when charged the defendant made no reply .

Garda Inspector Martin Beggy, Dundalk was successful in making an application to Judge Brennan to have the defendant remanded in custody to Cloverhill District Court on Tuesday next October 8th.

Solicitor for the defendant Mr Sean T. O’Reilly, Dundalk made no objection to the application.
