Care worker sues for defamation over Áras Attracta programme

A care worker in Co Mayo has sued RTÉ for alleged defamation.

It is understood the High Court action arises out of the broadcast of a TV programme in December 2014 concerning the Áras Attracta care home in Co Mayo.

The proceedings were lodged this week on behalf of Anna Ywunong Botsimbo (34), Low Park Avenue, Charlestown, Co Mayo.

Claiming damages

She is claiming damages for defamation, malicious falsehood, invasion of privacy, breach of her right to privacy and infringement of her constitutional right to her good name.

Ms Botsimbo was among a number of people charged before the District Court last June in connection with alleged assaults at Bungalow Three, Áras Attracta, Swinford, Co Mayo, which, it is claimed, took place on dates in November last year.

Ms Botsimbo was charged with one assault at the residence on November 14th, 2014.
