New Land League leader accused of failing to give details to gardaí

Campaigner Jerry Beades has been ordered to appear in court next month on charges of obstructing traffic and failing to give his details to a garda.

The 55-year-old New Land League boss appeared at Dublin District Court having missed an earlier hearing on April 1st when a bench warrant was issued.

However, Beades, from Richmond Avenue, Fairview, Dublin, met gardaí and was brought to court where he told told Judge Cormac Dunne "it was an error on my part".

He said that when he discovered it he contacted gardai and presented himself to them.

He is accused of two offences under the Road Traffic Act for parking in a manner that obstructed traffic at Richmond Avenue and failing to give identity information, on November 14, last year.

The campaigner, who supported solicitor Brian O’Donnell’s failed bid to hold on to his Gorse Hill mansion, was ordered to appear again on June 4th.
