The youth, who cannot be named because he is a minor, was brought before the Children’s Court yesterday.

Judge John O’Connor heard that when asked why he did not come to court on Monday the teenager said “he didn’t want to get out of bed”.

There was no application for bail, his lawyer said, and the teenager was remanded in custody for one week.

Gardaí had intended to object to his bail, the court had also been told.
