Adult teenager arrested over alleged sexual assaults in Sligo

Alleged assaults on teenage girls were reported to have happened on January 22nd

An adult teenager has been arrested by gardaí investigating a number of alleged assaults in Sligo earlier this year.

Gardaí in Sligo town launched an investigation into alleged sexual assaults of teenage girls, that reported to have occurred on January 22nd.

A number of scenes, including a section of the GAA grounds at Maugheraboy and a house less than 1km away, were sealed off as potential crime scenes.

On Monday, Garda headquarters said it had made an arrest in connection with the criminal investigation.

A male, adult teenager is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a garda station in the Sligo and Leitrim division, a spokesman said.

“No further information is available at this time. Investigations are ongoing,” he added.
