A research academy has called on the Government to establish a national clinical research institute to improve the quality of clinical care, .

It has also called for sustained funding for medical research, an investment that will pay dividends for healthcare and the wider economy.

EU research commissioner Máire Geoghegan Quinn was in Dublin yesterday to formally announce the Irish Academy of Medical Sciences. She said excellence in research would ultimately lead to excellence in care for patients.
