NTR, the company formerly known as National Toll Roads, has reported a 19.6 per cent increase in pre-tax profits for the first half of the year to the end of June 2002.

NTR, which operates Dublin's East and West Link toll bridges, has seen profits rise from €7.65 million for the first half of 2001 to €9.14 million for the same period this year.

The company said its after-tax profits rose to €7.44 million from €4.61 million in 2001 and group revenue also climbed 58 per cent from €38.25 million to €60.47 million.

NTR said traffic at its West-Link toll bridge increased by 6.5 per cent to more than 13 million vehicles - with income rising by 13.2 per cent to €18 million.

Income from the East-Link dropped 5.6 per cent to €3.4 million, largely due to disruption caused by the building of the Dublin Port Tunnel and the increased congestion along the city's eastern corridor.
