Corkboard world map
Here’s a interesting gift for the avid traveller: a corkboard world map. With 16 self-adhesive panels, lay out the planet on your wall to plan trips, record jaunts or simply stick up the shopping list. An accurate world projection for a map like this is way beyond the scope of cork board but you’ll get the general picture. Art piece or practical travel recorder, it marks you out as a world voyager even if you roam modestly. Though if you’re favouring the staycation currently, a few thumbtacks will cover the whole country. $45 from fancy.com
DataMask Diving Mask
More wearable tech, albeit perhaps for a fairly niche market. The DataMask has a compact LCD screen which gives the wearer all the essential dive data, including the current depth, elapsed dive time, cylinder pressure and time remaining. The rest of the hardware to deliver this incorporates a transducer for depth, wireless cylinder pressure sensor, replaceable battery and a micro-processor to handle the data. And all the info is delivered through a magnified display. $1,000 from oceanicworldwide.com, but only shipping to US at present
Casio Bluetooth G-Shock
As everyone is looking to make a watch that talks to a smartphone, watchmaker Casio has had a couple of stabs at a Bluetooth-enabled G-Shock. Its current GB-6900 models will notify you of incoming texts and emails, even Twitter updates, but unfortunately although they will alert you of incoming calls, there’s no caller ID. As watches they take some beating, with every sort of chrono-function, 200m waterproofing and LED backlight. .€200, urbanoutfitters.com. Tom Kelly
