The winner of our Surfing Reunion competition in Strandhill, Co Sligo, is Una Hughes (above) of Balbriggan, Co Dublin. The competition, in association with surfholidays.com, asked you to submit 300 words on why you and a group of friends would value a reunion.
We received lots of entries, but Una’s memories of a “crazy, frenetic time” working as a teacher in Bahrain in the 1990s with her friends, Karen, Laura and Jean, caught the imaginations of the judges.
It was a tale of bombings and refugees, hostages and incredible experiences, while firm friendships were forged. The four friends have remained in contact, but have never spent a night away together.
The prize, which includes two nights' stay in Strandhill Lodge and Suites; a visit to Voya Seaweed Baths; lunch in Shells Café and the Strand Bar, plus dinner in The Venue Bar; surf lessons with Strandhill Surf School and kayaking with Sligo Kayak Tours, will be a great way for the four to reconnect.
