Data shows that up to the age of about 30, women keep pace with men in the workforce. After that a hefty gap opens up, with just 64 per cent of women working compared to 70 per cent of men.

A World Economic Forum report from 2015 found that a large number of countries - Ireland included - "have failed to reap the returns on a pool of highly educated and skilled women".
