A postmortem on Peaches Geldof will be carried out tomorrow. The body of the 25-year-old has been transferred to Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford, where the examination will take place, Kent County Council said.

A coroner will open an investigation after the results of the initial postmortem have been received.

A decision on whether to hold an inquest will be made depending on the final results of the post mortem, which could take several weeks.

Fifi Geldof paid tribute to her younger sister who died yesterday. In a message on her Instagram page this morning, the 31-year-old wrote: "My beautiful baby sister . . . Gone but never forgotten. I love you, Peaches x."

The note was alongside a picture of the two sisters pulling faces in a garden when they were young girls.

Detectives continue to investigate the “unexplained” fatality at her home. Police said Geldof was pronounced dead at her house after they were called there at 1.35pm yesterday.

“The death is being treated as a non-suspicious, but an unexplained sudden death,” a police spokesman said. “Officers are working to establish the circumstances and will be compiling a report of their findings for the coroner.” Kent police declined to confirm or deny reports that no drugs or suicide note were found at the home, where detectives were continuing their inquiries today.

Earlier, President Michael D Higgins extended his sympathy to the late model's father, singer and activist Bob Geldof. President Higgins, who began a state visit to the UK today, said he and his wife Sabina were thinking of Geldof at his time of "immense loss".

They had been due to meet Geldof during the state visit.

“I extend my deepest sympathies to Bob Geldof and his family on the sudden and untimely death of his daughter Peaches,” the President said in a statement released this morning by Áras and Uachtaráin.

“This is such a difficult cross to bear for any family and all of our thoughts are with Peaches’ family and friends at this time. Sabina and I were due to meet Bob Geldof while on the State visit and we are thinking of him at this time of immense loss.”

Last night Geldof said he and his family were "beyond pain", following the death. The model, journalist and television personality was found at her home in Kent in southern England at lunchtime yesterday.

Peaches Geldof was twice married, first to US musician Max Drummey when she was 19 and then to musician Tom Cohen in 2012. They had two boys – Phaedra, who will be one later this month, and 23-month-old Astala. Phaedra shares the same birth date as her late grandmother, author and TV presenter Paula Yates, who died in 2000 of a drug overdose at age 41.

The last tweet sent by Peaches Geldof was of her as a child in the arms of her mother.
