Our wedding story: ‘I couldn’t say my vows properly because I was laughing so much’

Róisín and Chris’s relationship was born on the stage when they were studying musical theatre

Róisín Walsh (28) first met Chris Currid (23) in 2009 when they were studying musical theatre at Bull Alley Theatre Training Company in Dublin. “I fancied him straight away,” she says, “but because we were both in relationships, nothing could happen. A short time later, we were both single and he asked me out. It was meant to be.”

Chris owns Razzle Dazzle Stage School in Wicklow which had its dress rehearsal night on December 20th, 2013. Róisín went along to lend a hand to Chris who seemed unusually stressed that day.

On the drive home, they decided to “settle in with curry, a DVD and PJs.” Róisín came downstairs having changed to find Chris pacing the kitchen. “I told him to relax, that the show was going to be amazing.” Then he went down on one knee and asked her to marry him.

“I’m only raging about what I was wearing,” she laughs.

They were married – in front of 144 guests – on February 26th in St Martin of Tours church in Culmullen, Co Meath, with a reception afterwards at the Knightsbrook Hotel in Trim. “It was the easiest planning, out friends and families were so helpful and it made the wedding more special knowing they all played a part in it,” Róisín says.

Some of the parts they played included a flash mob singing Elvis Presley's Can't Help Falling In Love. "It was meant to include about 12 people but the entire congregation stood up and joined in. It was so amazing and we were all in floods of tears. I couldn't say my vows properly because I was laughing so much."

Later on, the couple's friends Brian Gilligan and Amy Penston – who are now appearing in the West End production of The Commitments – sang Mustang Sally and Try a Little Tenderness.

Brian then treated the newlyweds to a slow version of I Want To Hold Your Hand, a surprise organised by Chris for his new wife.

Chris and Róisín are moving to Orlando this summer where Chris has been hired as the lead male singer in a new Irish rock show starting in June.
