CO CARLOW: €500,000:SUBSTANTIAL PRICE CUTS on big country houses are now the order of the day and Rathvinden in Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow, a big Georgian house on 20 acres, is a good example of this.

Savills has slashed the AMV from €900,000 to €500,000. The property, which straddles the Barrow, is due to be auctioned on December 14th.

Dating back to 1810, the two storey over basement house can justifiably be called a mansion at 875sq m (9,418sq ft). The price includes a stable yard with a cottage, apartment and a modern barn, as well as a one-room folly-style gate lodge, a bungalow lodge and grazing paddocks.

Savills describe the main house as being “in relatively good condition”.

On the first floor there are six-bedrooms and in the basement a further four bedrooms, a boot room and a laundry

Quite a few of the bedrooms are en suite and the main bedroom has a dressing room. The gardens surrounding the house include a walled kitchen garden with a green house and fruit trees, a tennis court and a garage.
