The architect who designed Linden, a large detached house on Silchester Road in Glenageary, was determined to keep it bright: there are roof windows in many of the rooms and lots of internal doors are glazed.

It is one of the newest houses on this road of imposing Victorian homes on spacious grounds dating from around 1860. It is opposite Glenageary Tennis Club, and beside Lord's Walk, a wide pedestrian path that links Silchester Road to The Metals, the path that runs beside the Dart line.

Electronic gates open into a long gravelled tree-lined drive that leads to the double front doors of Linden. They open into a wide entrance hall: on the right, through glazed French doors, is the long dual-aspect drawingroom. The five windows at the front and two at the side of the room are, like those in the diningroom across the hall, arched. It has a large sandstone fireplace and honey gold wallpaper. More French doors open into a study, which in turn has French doors to the back garden.

There’s also a familyroom at the back of the house and a downstairs toilet.

More glazed doors open into the hexagonal diningroom on the left of the hall; and this opens into the long kitchen/breakfastroom. This has a tiled floor, polished granite countertops and French doors opening on to the back garden; there is a utility room off it.

Upstairs, on the left of the landing, there’s a large double-front bedroom, quite separate from the other bedrooms. The main bedroom, at the other end of the landing, has French doors onto a small balcony overlooking the tree-lined drive; it has Sliderobes storage and a fully-tiled en suite shower room.
