Looking for accurate, impartial and free advice on caring for a period property? If so, the place to go is the Irish Georgian Society nearly annual Traditional Building Skills and Demonstrations weekend in Glendalough, Co Wicklow on Saturday, September 19th and Sunday, September 20th.

The popular event, held in the beautiful grounds of the Office of Public Works monastic site, is a one-stop destination for owners caring for and repairing heritage buildings.

Visitors can watch demonstrations of fanlight conservation, decorative plasterwork, sash window repair and stone carving on the lawn adjacent to the OPW Visitor Centre.

Meanwhile, hourly conservation talks on Co Wicklow farmhouses, thatched buildings, country houses and demesnes will take place in the Meeting Room and the Glen Suite at the adjacent Glendalough Hotel (see glendaloughhotel.com), which is a two-minute walk from the traditional building skills exhibition marquee.
