Thérèse Gorry, a well-known figure in the Irish art world, has died at the age of 66. She helped to run the Gorry Gallery in Dublin's Molesworth Street with her husband, James Gorry, the third generation of the family to run the business. It was established 120 years ago and specialises in the sale and restoration of 18th to 21st-century Irish paintings.
She was born on October 27th, 1949, and died on September 11th, 2016, after a short illness. She is survived by her husband James (Jimmy); son James and daughter Aisling .
Her funeral took place in Dublin on Saturday, September 17th. More than 500 people attended her requiem Mass, officiated by Fr Kit Sheridan in the Church of Mary Immaculate, Refuge of Sinners, Rathmines, where Mark Redmond played the uilleann pipes and Noreen O'Donoghue the harp. In his eulogy, her son, James Gorry Jnr, praised his mother's "people skills, great organisational and marketing abilities" and recalled that she would "hand-write up to 4,000 invites in fountain pen" to exhibitions, which "demonstrated her personal touch and attention to detail".
