The first jewellery auctions of the year take place in Dublin this week. First up, John Weldon Auctioneers on Cow's Lane, Temple Bar on Tuesday, January 23rd at 2pm, features 450 lots including a diamond three-stone ring described as "the property of a distinguished Irish lady" with a guide price of €9,000-€12,000. That seems like good value given that it is accompanied by an insurance valuation for €46,000. The ring is platinum and the main diamond is a princess cut of 3cts, I colour & VS 2 clarity. Mr Weldon said "Meghan Markle, Prince Harry's fiancee also wears a 3ct diamond ring with two 0.5ct on each side".

A selection of pieces by Tiffany includes a gold necklace of about 118g (€4,000-€6,000); a gold bangle about 41g (€1,000-€1,500); a gold diamond watch (€2,500-€3,500); and, a pair of gold diamond-set earrings (€800-€1,200). A man's Hublot "Big Bang" diamond-set watch is estimated at €7,000-€8,000 and a lady's two-tone, diamond-set Rolex "Datejust" bracelet watch is €3,500-€4,500. Art deco

O’Reilly’s on Francis Street, Dublin 8 has more than 500 lots of jewellery and watches going under the hammer on Wednesday, January 24th. Highlights include Lot 100, an art deco emerald and diamond ring, dating from circa 1940, that was bought at Christie’s in London 20 years ago and is now estimated at €14,000-€18,000. Lot 62, a sapphire and diamond “Turtle” brooch by Cartier, is set throughout with sapphires of 1.2ct and diamonds of 0.56ct, mounted in 18ct yellow gold (€6,500-€8,500).

Lot 218, is a Patek Philippe watch, made in the 1960s, in an 18ct yellow gold cushion-shape case, with automatic mechanical movement, on a black crocodile print strap (€5,600-€6000). Lot 235 is a pair of diamond and gem-set flower brooches by Van Cleef & Arpels, one set at the centre with one round ruby cabochon, the other set at the centre with one round emerald cabochon (€3,500-€5,500). Lot 305 is a pair of Tiffany & Co cat brooches, set with emeralds and diamonds, mounted in 18ct yellow and white gold (€3,000-€5,000). Lot 237, is an art deco Chinese-style card case, in sterling silver with hardstone inlays, signed "TAMISIER - PARIS - VICHY - NICE" (€1,000-€2,000).
