The Michelin Guide has awarded no new stars to Irish restaurants with no change to the nine starred restaurants in the 2015 guide. A list released by Michelin online this morning at 7.31am showed all nine restaurants in the Republic have retained their stars.
Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud has retained its two star status. The other single star restaurants: The Cliff House Hotel in Ardmore, Co Waterford, Campagne in Kilkenny, the Lady Helen in Mount Juliet Kilkenny, Aniar in Galway and the four Dublin restaurants: Chapter One, Bon Appetit, L'Ecrivain and Thorntons all remain starred in the new guide.
The 14 new stars in the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2015 all went to restaurants in Scotland, Wales, Devon, Cornwall and London. Northern Ireland remains starless for its fourth year since Michael Deane lost his star in 2011.
The only change to the Michelin listing in the Republic was an award of a new bib gourmand to Dublin restaurant Etto on Merrion Row. In the North three new bibs were awarded to Belfast restaurants James St South Bar and Grill and Deanes at Queens in Belfast. The Old Schoolhouse in Co Down got the North’s third new bib gourmand.
In a statement Michelin editor Rebecca Bur said the 14 new stars “highlight the enormous richness and variety of the UK’s restaurant scene. They range from country pubs to hipster hangouts, from counter-restaurants to classic dining rooms”.
Scotland got two new stars for restaurants on its islands: the Isle of Eriska and the Isle of Skye. Wales got two stars. Cornwall got one. The Treby Arms in Devon was one of three English pubs to gain a star.
The remaining stars went to London restaurants: Spanish restaurant Barrafina, Kitchen Table at Bubbledogs, Indian restaurant Gymkhana, Jason Atherton’s City Social, Simon Rogan’s Fera and The Clove Club which “comes from a team who cut their teeth in pop-ups,” according to the press release.
Nine of the Guide’s 26 new bib gourmands were awarded to London.
The Bib is awarded to “establishments offering good food at affordable prices, set at €40 for three courses”.
"The public's knowledge and interest in food gets greater every year and it won't just be fans of cookery shows who will be planning trips to Devon to the Treby Arms," Rebecca Burr said.
The Treby Arms is owned by former MasterChef winner, Anton Piotrowski.
