The public has been asked to support a new survey being conducted by the State’s statisticians to determine how life has changed in the five years since Covid upended virtually every aspect of our world.

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) wants people to take part in an online pulse survey in advance of the fifth anniversary of the first lockdowns in March 2020 which “changed life for people in Ireland almost overnight”.

The short survey – which the CSO said would take no more than 10 minutes – aims to measure the impact of the changes, if any, that people have experienced over the period since the threat of Covid first emerged and is open to all adults living in Ireland.

Among the questions asked are how the pandemic and post-pandemic period impacted on relationships, health and financial wellbeing.

It opened on Friday and will remain active until February 3rd.

The results will be published to coincide with the anniversary of the introduction of restrictions in Ireland in response to the pandemic.

“In this survey, we ask you to tell us about how your life has changed in the last five years,” said Fiona O’Riordan, head of the CSO’s social data collection section. “Does widespread remote working impact on your job satisfaction, work-life balance, or your opportunities for promotion? Did school or college closures impact your or your children’s education and social development? Have your personal relationships been affected, or has your attitude to exercise or social media changed?”

She said that by opting to take part in the research people could provide “valuable insight into the impact of the pandemic on the lives of people in Ireland”.

The survey should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete and can be done on any type of device.

The survey can be accessed from the CSO home page.
