A body has been found during an air and sea search for a kayaker who was reported missing off the coast of Co Waterford on Monday.
The Irish Coast Guard received a notification at 5.25pm on Monday that the man, believed to be aged in his 60s, had not returned to shore after departing from Helvick Head in Dungarvan at 11.40am.
The Marine Rescue Coordination Centre in Dublin initiated a search, with support from the Helvick lifeboat, Bunmahon Coast Guard Unit, Ardmore Coast Guard Unit, and rescue helicopter R117. The naval vessel LÉ Aobhinn was on site on Monday night co-ordinating the search.
At about 10am on Tuesday a body was located in the Stradbally Cove area, about 10km from Dungarvan.

In a post on X, Taoiseach Simon Harris said: “Tragic news from Waterford this morning. I send my condolences to the family and friends of the man who lost his life at sea. I also thank our Coast Guard, search and rescue, and emergency services for their service and their efforts in the last 24 hours.”
