Gardaí have ruled out foul play in the death of a man who was found unconscious in a Cork housing estate earlier this morning and was later pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.
The 43-year-old, who was originally from Cork’s Northside, was found lying unconscious in a cul-de-sac at Ballinsheen Court in Mahon on Cork’s southside at around 8.30am on December 31st
The emergency services were alerted and the man was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later and gardaí began an investigation.
It’s understood garda suspicions had been aroused by the fact the man was found with a bag of money near him while his clothing was not properly in place even though he had no obvious injuries.

Gardaí cordoned off the scene and garda technical experts began a forensic examination of the area while officers also began door-to-door inquiries to try to find out what happened to the man.
Gardaí also requested the services of the State Pathologist’s Office and Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Margaret Bolster carried out a post-mortem on the man’s remains at CUH this afternoon.
Gardaí have not released the results of the post-mortem, but it’s understood that they are satisfied from Dr Bolster’s findings that there was nothing suspicious about the man’s death.
Gardaí will now prepare a file on the matter’s death including trying to establish when he was last seen alive and well for an inquest at Cork City Coroner’s Court in the new year.
